Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam--DAMN!!!

  • Mood: Rant
  • Listening to: Random Stuff
  • Reading: Youtube Comments
  • Watching: Sonic X
  • Playing: MVC2, Worms, BomberMan Ultra, C&C: Red Alert 3
  • Eating: Rice
  • Drinking: WATER!!!
Preamble: Before you actually read this, I'd like to inform you all that these rants are my way of voicing my opinion about things I like or don't like. Whether or not you like my opinion is up to you, however I will hold no responsibility for your responses. If you have the right to read my rants and enjoy them or agree with me, you also have the right to dislike it or disagree with me.

Simply put, love it or loathe it, or just plain *bleep* off. Now, here's the spam--I mean, rant:

Ok, so recently I was looking through my devWATCH and I'm looking through the usual crap and favoring the new stuff that I like (and leaving a comment on something I feel is worth putting my two cents on), and I come across this one 'stamp' that somebody made. Now stamps are fine, I have no problem with them...though sometimes I have a problem with the message they might convey, and--That's right! You guessed it! I had a problem with this one!

So, yeah, an odd stamp giving deviants yet another reason to snap at other people, and--You know what this one said? This one went along the lines of "DO NOT SPAM FAV THIS ACCOUNT". And I'm thinking, "What the :censored:? Are you telling me she DOESN'T want the favorites? Is she telling us that she doesn't want us silently advertising her deviations through our Favorites galleries?!?" Then it hit me. "Oh, wait, I get it. She doesn't want a flood of favorites messages in her Message Center. That's perfectly understandible, but SPAM?!?" And immediately I knew who to blame for this... Monty :censored:ing Python.

Have you ever seen his 'Spam' skit? It involves a restaurant and singing vikings and menu items with spam in it multiple times, and throughout the skit the repeated mention of the word spam entices the vikings to get up and sing about spam. So I guess people started thinking, "Oh crap, spam must be pretty irritating then, huh?" And I don't know what order these resulting farces come in, but among the results of watching that is the invention of SPAM as an acronym for 'Stupid Pointless Annoying Message' and has widely been applied to everything from l33tsp34k to flooding, just because they can't think of a better or more accurate label!

Why am I pissed off? Because the word SPAM as a tech term is actually the word for unsolicited advertisement. Popups, browser hijacking, those annoying offers that come in your e-mail inbox every so often--That kind of thing. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines spam as, and I quote, "unsolicited usually commercial e-mail sent to a large number of addresses." That's about the only time I consider the SPAM acronym to be appropriate! And yet there are people complaining about getting a ton of messages in one place or, say, a really lame and unreadable message--hell, even everything that involves seeing the same thing over and over--

:iconwrongplz: WRONG!!!

What gives!? You People INSIST on trying to label as many irritating repetitions as possible as SPAM. WHY?!? Are you REALLY so addicted to pop cultre that it defines your LIFESTYLE!? I mean, was that last episode of The Simpsons REALLY so inspiring to you? Do some of you actually get a boner from watching Metalocalypse? Or do you have a closet shrine of the Gundam SEED franchise!? It's rediculous! It's worse than the original Monty Python skit itself! Seriously, you guys!

My point in all this is that people will likely try to abuse a cool word they come across, and I see this abuse with the word spam WAY too often! If you can't use the damn word right, then I say don't use it at all, you n00b! LOOK IT UP FIRST BEFORE MAKING AN ASS OUT OF YOURSELF, alright!? Maybe it'll help you look a little more professional and maybe make you WORTH something to use human vocabulary CORRECTLY. This is Wesley Sahonic, your Blue Fav+Spamming, Ranting Autistic Spanamanian, and that's all I have to spam about that, so I'm spamming off, godspammit! :spam:
